Ad account disabled: Your account has a payment issue that needs your review. To resolve this issue, go to www.fb.me/boost-settings
In short
Meta disabled the ad account because of a payment problem: an unpaid balance, often of a few dollars, or a card that could not be charged. Pay what is due or add a valid payment method in Billing & payments; if the account stays disabled, request a review from Business Support Home.

Where it shows up: in the Instagram app when you boost a post, in Billing & payments, in Ads Manager and in Account Quality.
Why it happens
- A payment is due or failed. The message says the account has a payment issue: in most threads, a small balance (often a few dollars) that Meta could not charge automatically. Meta’s help center lists the usual causes on the card side: online payments disabled, missing CVV, expired card, insufficient funds, or a card already added to more than 10 ad accounts.
- A temporary hold that failed. Many advertisers see the same “Ad account disabled” title with “Temporary hold unsuccessful”: Meta tried to place a temporary hold on the payment method and the bank refused it, sometimes even when prepaid funds were on the account.
- A bug on Meta’s side, sometimes. On May 30, 2024, dozens of advertisers received this message while their ads kept spending; it disappeared on its own the next day.
How to fix it
- Open the link in the message (www.fb.me/boost-settings), or go to Billing & payments from Meta Business Suite, Ads Manager or, in the Instagram app, from the ad tools’ payment settings. Select the ad account, then Payment methods.
- Click Pay now to pay the balance due, or add funds if the account runs on prepaid funds. Pick an existing card or add a new one.
- Check the card, as Meta’s help center recommends: online payments enabled, CVV, the phone that receives the OTP / 3DS code at hand, expiry date, sufficient funds, and not used on more than 10 ad accounts.
- Add a backup payment method so the ads do not stop the next time an automatic charge fails.
- If the account is still disabled, open Business Support Home on a computer, select the ad account in the account overview and follow the step Meta offers (confirm your identity, finish a verification or request a review). You need to be an admin of the ad account.
What worked for other advertisers
On r/FacebookAds and r/PPC, advertisers stuck with this message share what reactivated their account:
- At the very bottom of Billing & payments, on the disabled account, click “Need help? Get help”, fill in the review form and attach a screenshot of your Meta charges. 6 replies confirm it, for example “Within 10 seconds i got a message my account was reinstated.” (August 2024)
- Pay the small balance due: for several advertisers the account unlocked automatically, “as I do release the payment than it’s automatically unrestricted” (2 confirmations, November 2024).
- Set the billing threshold to exactly the amount due, after removing and re-adding the payment method (2 confirmations, May 2024).
- When the review button does nothing, use the Meta Business support chat: an agent reactivated the account (2 confirmations, August 2024).
What does not work on its own: retrying the hold again and again, or trying card after card. Several advertisers tried up to seven payment methods without any change, and some were still blocked two business days after paying.
Most of these fixes date from 2023 and 2024: Meta’s billing screens may have changed since.
How to avoid it next time
- Keep a backup payment method on the account, and check that the main card allows online payments and has not expired.
- If you use prepaid funds, check the billing settings: with automatic billing, Meta can still try a temporary hold on the card.
- Do not add the same card to many ad accounts: Meta’s help center sets the practical limit at 10.

Frequently asked questions
My account is disabled for a failed payment, but I have prepaid funds. Why?
Advertisers report it: with automatic billing, Meta still tries a temporary hold on the card and disables the account when it fails, even with a prepaid balance. One reply says a debt created by a card cannot be paid from prepaid funds: add another card to clear it.
What does “Temporary hold unsuccessful” mean?
Advertisers see it with the same “Ad account disabled” title: Meta could not place a temporary hold on the payment method. Meta’s help center asks you to check that the card allows online payments, has funds and has not expired, then to try again or use another payment method.
Can I recover the ad account?
Often, yes: paying the small balance due unblocks it automatically for many advertisers. If it does not, the review form at the bottom of Billing & payments (“Need help? Get help”) is the route with the most confirmations.
Should I create a new ad account instead?
Only as a last resort. Some advertisers say it worked, others that the error came back within a day or two, or that Meta refused a new account while the first one was disabled.
