Meta Subcode 1815430 Pixel and events

Please select a promoted object for your ad set. (error subcode 1815430)

In short

The ad set optimizes for an action on your website or app but no pixel (dataset) and event are selected, so Meta does not know what to optimize for.

Message Please select a promoted object for your ad set. Veuillez sélectionner un objet promu pour votre ensemble de publicités.
Error title in Meta's help center (codes 1815430 and 1487790) no promotion object found Aucun objet de promotion trouvé

Where it shows up: in the response of Meta's Marketing API when an ad, ad set or creative is created, for example by a tool that launches ads for you.

Why it happens

  • No pixel selected, or none installed. Meta’s help center documents error codes 1815430 and 1487790 under the title “no promotion object found”: you may have no pixel installed on your website, or you did not select it during ad set creation.
  • Which campaigns need it. With the traffic, engagement, leads, app promotion or sales objectives, campaigns that optimize for actions on your website or app need a Meta Pixel and an event.
  • For API users: the “promoted object” is the ad set’s promoted_object field. Meta’s reference says it is required with some objectives; for conversions it carries the pixel ID (pixel_id) and the event (custom_event_type). It is missing from the request.

How to fix it

  1. In Ads Manager, open the ad set and go to the Conversion section.
  2. Select your website (or your app) as the conversion location.
  3. Choose your pixel in Dataset, then the event you want to optimize for.
  4. If you have no pixel yet, create it and install it on your website first, then set up events.
  5. Publish again.

What worked for other advertisers

In an r/FacebookAds thread on the same subcode (worded “No promotion object found: Please specify a promoted object for the ad set.”), the fix that got thanked:

  1. Create the pixel if the account has none (on Shopify, add the pixel ID in the store).
  2. Turn off your ad blocker on Ads Manager: otherwise the pixel picker can stay empty.
  3. In the ad set’s Conversion section, pick the pixel and the event, then publish.

4 replies confirm it (one says it did not work), for example “This worked for me too. Thanks a ton for putting this out!”.

How to avoid it next time

  • Check the pixel and the event on every ad set you duplicate or create from a template.
  • If you launch through the API or a tool, send the promoted_object (pixel and event) on every ad set that optimizes for conversions.

Frequently asked questions

What is a promoted object?

It is what the ad set promotes and optimizes for: for website conversions, your pixel and the event to optimize, such as a purchase.

Do I need a pixel for every campaign?

No. Meta requires it when the ad set optimizes for actions on your website or app.

I see “Select a dataset and conversion event for this ad set (#1815430)”. Is it the same error?

Yes. It carries the same code, 1815430, with Meta's newer wording, where the pixel is called a dataset. The fix is the same: pick the dataset and the conversion event in the ad set's Conversion section.

I selected the pixel and still get it. Why?

Check that an event is chosen too and that the pixel is the one installed on your site; Meta's message only says that the promoted object is missing.
