Your advertising access was restricted for security purposes. This means you can't run ads or manage ad accounts. To reinstate your advertising access, confirm your identity. This helps us prevent fraud and impersonation on our platform.

In short

Meta restricted your Facebook profile’s advertising access for security reasons, not because of your ads: you can’t run ads or manage ad accounts until you confirm your identity. Do it from Business Support Home, on a computer, then wait for Meta’s decision.

Exact message

Field English
Message Your advertising access was restricted for security purposes. This means you can't run ads or manage ad accounts. To reinstate your advertising access, confirm your identity. This helps us prevent fraud and impersonation on our platform.

Where it shows up: in Business Support Home (account overview of your Facebook profile), in Ads Manager, and in the Instagram app when you try to boost a post.

Why it happens

  • A security check, not a policy violation. The message says the restriction is “for security purposes” and exists to “prevent fraud and impersonation”: Meta wants to make sure the person behind the profile is who they claim to be.
  • It targets your profile, not one ad account. You can’t run ads or manage any ad account with this profile, including from the Instagram app when you boost a post.
  • A related screen points to two-factor authentication. Advertisers also share an “Account restricted” screen saying they can’t advertise because they don’t use two-factor authentication; in that case the fix is to turn it on (Secure your account on their screenshots).

How to fix it

  1. On a computer, open Meta’s Business Support Home, as described in Meta’s help center.
  2. In the account overview, open your restricted Facebook profile.
  3. Under What you can do, confirm your identity (an ID document is requested), then wait for the decision. If a Request review button is offered, use it.
  4. Turn on two-factor authentication on your profile if the screen mentions it.
  5. Once access is back, reactivate your ads: Meta says they don’t restart on their own after a review.

What worked for other advertisers

The threads on r/FacebookAds have few confirmed fixes; here is what advertisers report:

  1. In a 2023 thread, the most cited path: confirm your identity from Business Support Home, turn on two-factor authentication on the profile, the Instagram account and the business portfolio, and if the verification page stays blank, try from the Facebook mobile app and report the bug. No one confirms it lifted this exact restriction.
  2. An advertiser blocked from boosting on Instagram ran the ads from another ad account in Ads Manager, with the Instagram account as identity (1 confirmation, February 2024): “Use a different Ad account, run the ads in ads manager”.
  3. After sending the ID, waiting is the only option: “it can take up to a few weeks” (2021 comment, the interface may have changed).

Requesting a review did not help everyone: one advertiser was still blocked a week later, and others say the Request review button returned “Something went wrong” at every try.

How to avoid it next time

  • Turn on two-factor authentication on every profile that manages ads, and on the business portfolio.
  • Make sure each ad account has more than one legitimate admin: Meta warns that an ad account whose only user is a restricted profile can be disabled.

Frequently asked questions

“Account restricted”, “Your account is restricted”, “Your advertising access is restricted”: which one do I have?

Read the reason in the message. This one says “for security purposes” and asks you to confirm your identity: it is a security check on your profile. If it says your ads didn’t comply with the policies, see “Your account is restricted from advertising”. If it says you’re “no longer allowed to advertise”, see “Your advertising access is restricted”.

The link to confirm my identity doesn’t work. What can I do?

It is the most reported problem in the threads, often a blank verification page. The advice given, without confirmation, is to try from the Facebook mobile app and report the bug with a screenshot. No advertiser reports a guaranteed fix.

How long does the review take?

Meta says a review usually takes about 48 hours. Advertisers report waiting longer, up to a few weeks, with nothing to do in the meantime.

Can I just create a new profile and advertise from it?

Advertisers who tried say the new profile was blocked right away. Others who opened a new business portfolio saw it disabled for circumvention.
