Your account is restricted from advertising because your ads didn't comply with Facebook's Advertising Policies or other standards. If you believe that your account shouldn't be restricted, you can request a review.
In short
Meta restricted the account from advertising because it considers that its ads broke the advertising policies or other standards. If you think it’s a mistake, request a review in Business Support Home: you need to be an admin, and the number of reviews is limited, so prepare it well.

| Message | Your account is restricted from advertising because your ads didn't comply with Facebook's Advertising Policies or other standards. If you believe that your account shouldn't be restricted, you can request a review. |
Where it shows up: in Business Support Home (account status), in Ads Manager, and in the Instagram app, often as a notification when you try to promote a post.
Why it happens
- Meta judged that your ads broke its rules. The message says it plainly: your ads “didn’t comply with Facebook’s Advertising Policies or other standards”. Unlike a security check, this restriction is about what you advertised.
- It often shows up on Instagram. Advertisers report it as an Instagram notification, sometimes right after linking a new Instagram account to Meta’s ad tools, on accounts that had never run an ad.
- The wording has changed. A 2026 mobile version shared by advertisers says “Meta’s Advertising Standards” instead of “Facebook’s Advertising Policies”; the meaning and the fix are the same.
How to fix it
- If you think the restriction is a mistake, open Meta’s Business Support Home on a computer and go to Account status overview in the left menu, as described in Meta’s help center.
- Select the restricted account (business portfolio, ad account, Page or profile).
- Under What you can do, choose Request review and follow the steps (confirm your identity, secure the account…). You must be an admin of the account.
- Wait for the decision: Meta says a review usually takes 48 hours, the number of requests is limited and the decision after review is final.
- If the restriction is lifted, reactivate your ads: they don’t restart on their own.
What worked for other advertisers
In a 2023 r/FacebookAds thread, one advertiser’s method got 4 replies saying it worked, for example “it fixed the issue I was having”:
- Request the review once, with the ID Meta asks for, then wait for the decision without starting a second one: it may be your last.
- Meanwhile, turn on two-factor authentication on the Facebook profile, the Instagram account, the business portfolio and the ad account.
- If the review is refused, contact support through the chat and ask for the case to go to a human review before using your last request.
In more recent threads (2025-2026), single advertisers add, without confirmation: make sure your personal Facebook profile is an admin of the Instagram account, verify the business in the security section of Business Manager, and check the Page and Instagram statuses separately.
What didn’t work: the review link in Meta’s email, which opens the Instagram app without a review option, and waiting after a restriction announced as lifted that was still active.

How to avoid it next time
- Read Meta’s advertising standards before boosting a post: the restriction comes from ads judged non-compliant.
- Turn on two-factor authentication on every account involved, including the Instagram account.
- Don’t open new accounts to get around a restriction: advertisers who did saw them disabled too.

Frequently asked questions
“Account restricted”, “Your account is restricted”, “Your advertising access is restricted”: which one do I have?
Read the reason in the message. This one blames your ads for not complying with the policies: it is a policy restriction, and the way out is a review. If the message says “for security purposes” and asks for your identity, see “Account restricted”. If it says you’re “no longer allowed to advertise”, see “Your advertising access is restricted”. If it says you’re “temporarily restricted from taking this action”, it is a different, temporary block: try again later.
Instagram says I’m restricted, but my Facebook ad account is fine. Why?
Advertisers report that a restriction on the Instagram account doesn’t always reach the Facebook ad account. In Business Manager, check the status of the Page and of the Instagram account separately.
The “request a review” link in the email doesn’t work. What can I do?
Advertisers say the email link just opens the Instagram app, without any review option. Meta’s help center sends you to Business Support Home, on a computer, where the restricted account has a Request review button.
Should I delete my Instagram account and start again?
Advertisers who opened new business portfolios or ad accounts to get around a restriction saw them disabled for circumvention. Use the review first.
