| Message | This campaign belongs to a different account. | Cette campagne appartient à un compte différent. |
Where it shows up: in the response of Meta's Marketing API when an ad, ad set or creative is created, for example by a tool that launches ads for you.
Why it happens
- A campaign and its ad sets live in the same ad account. In Meta’s Marketing API, an ad set is created in an ad account (
act_<ID>/adsets) and attached to its campaign with thecampaign_idfield. The message says the campaign it points to belongs to another account. - Ads Manager does not copy across ad accounts. Meta’s help center notes that the copy clipboard is limited to one ad account and that you can’t copy ads across ad accounts.
- Example situation: a tool or a saved setting still points to a campaign of the account you used before, while you now launch in another account.
How to fix it
- In Ads Manager, check which ad account is selected.
- Open the Campaigns tab and confirm that the target campaign is listed in this ad account.
- If the campaign is in another ad account, create the ad set in a campaign of the current account: select an ad set of this account, click Duplicate and choose Existing campaign or New campaign, or create a new campaign.
- If you use a tool or the API, select the campaign again after switching ad accounts, so the request uses a campaign of the right account.
How to avoid it next time
- After switching ad accounts, reselect the campaign before launching.
- Keep one naming convention per ad account so campaigns of different accounts are not confused.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move a campaign to another ad account?
Meta's help center says the Ads Manager clipboard is limited to one ad account, so you can't copy ads across ad accounts. Rebuild the campaign in the target account.
Does the error mean I lack permissions?
No. This message is about the campaign and the ad set belonging to different ad accounts. Permission problems return other messages, such as error 1487194.
Is anything created when this error appears?
The ad set is refused. Other objects of the same launch may have been created; check the ad account before retrying.
